Alcohol consumption is for many adults a social event.

Consuming alcohol as merely a social event is normal for many of American adults.  They will drink at a party or dinner but they do not abuse alcohol on an everyday basis.  Approximately two drinks a day for men and one a day for women is considered harmless for most adults. There are those adults however that abuse drinking alcohol.  The number reaches somewhere close to 1 in every 10 adults are alcohol abusers.

Alcohol is a legal drug which is one factor that contributes to so much abuse by adults in the United States.  Many people believe that because they can obtain liquor in any restaurant, grocery, or convenience store then it must be OK.  They are powerless to see the control alcohol may have on their lives.  Abuse may not be apparent to them.  As with any drug addiction help from others is often needed to combat an abuse problem.

Breathalyzers and saliva sample tests are the two main methods of alcohol drug testing done.  Police officers generally use a breathalyzer when performing a test on someone they may suspect of being under the influence.  The suspect is usually asked to breath into a tube that will offer a digital response of the alcohol level.  This method is very accurate.

Saliva tests are placed in the mouth and after enough saliva is absorbed the test is removed and depending on the level of alcohol present a color change on the test should occur. To interpret the results a color chart is provided.
