Small or trace amounts of
everything we ingest is stored in our hair making it an accurate log of
our daily habits.
We tend to think of our hair as our crowing glory, its only purpose
cosmetic. We spend hours in front of the mirror arranging it to make us
look good, we pay to have it cut and styled, and if we’re balding we try
to grow it back. But there is more to the hair than meets the eye.
A small amount of everything we ingest is stored in our hair. The hair
is an accurate log of our dietary habits and has been used for years to
analyze the need for mineral supplements. Since the hair stores
everything we ingest, including what we breath into our bloodstream
through our lungs, it’s the most accurate method of drug testing
available today. The hair drug test detects the presence of marijuana,
cocaine, the opiates, and much more.
Ten Times More Effective
Hair drug test kits come with instructions on how to collect a hair
sample and send it to the laboratory for evaluation. Hair drug testing
is a modern, convenient way to test for drugs. Schools and employers can
easily test students and employees to determine whether they are using
drugs. Hair drug tests are ten times more effective than urine drug
tests.
Why the Hair Drug Test Works
Anything a person takes into the body ends up in the bloodstream.
Anything that is in the bloodstream ends up in the hair follicles and
becomes part of the hair.
When a person takes drugs or any other substance such as drinks, food,
medicines, and vitamins by mouth, it mixes with the blood in the
digestive track. When a person inhales smoke or fumes, it goes into the
blood through the lungs. The blood nourishes all parts of the body, down
to the single cell of every organ and hair follicle. Whatever is in the
bloodstream becomes trapped or filtered through the hair follicles, and
as the hair grows, these chemicals become part of the hair itself.
Accuracy
Hair analysis is extremely accurate. It not only traces any drugs in a
person’s system in the present, but over the past few months. A two-inch
sample of hair reveals what the person has ingested over the past four
months. Hair drug testing is more costly than urine testing, but its use
is increasing because of its accuracy, convenience, and effectiveness.
How Hair Testing Is Done
A minimum of 50 strands of hair is cut about one and a half inches from
the scalp and sent to the drug testing laboratory. The sample is
screened and reviewed, then liquified for final testing.
Hair Drug Testing Kits
Hair drug testing kits are widely available but expensive. Prices range
from $50 to $69 a kit. Laboratory processing fees are usually included
in the price.
As with any method of drug testing, it’s important to remember that
positive test results are sometimes triggered by legal substances such
as prescribed medications and over-the-counter medications. A positive
test result does not automatically mean that the person is using illegal
drugs. When a test comes back positive, the results should be reviewed
by a doctor, nurse, or other specialist to determine whether illegal
drugs are involved or not.
Hair Drug Testing Is Impossible to Beat
Individuals using drugs have sought to find ways to beat hair drug
testing. Some say that you can wash your hair with a shampoo formulated
to clean all toxins from the hair. These shampoos may dissolve toxins
from the surface of the hair, but they can’t get rid of those toxins or
anything that is already a part of the hair. They also cannot take any
substance out of the hair follicle's structure. Hair is like a plant. If
it grows in a toxic environment, it will absorb the toxins and they will
become a part of its structure. No kind of shampoo can change that.
Can the presence of toxins in the hair be masked by bleaching or dyeing
it? This may temporarily work, but the ploy will be obvious and the
chemicals will quickly show up in the hair follicles. Our skin is made
up of fatty tissues that store toxins. When the body sweats, it releases
oil and toxins to the surface of the skin which are quickly absorbed by
the hair. The masked hair is immediately contaminated by these waste
products.
Shaving the head is another ploy that only works temporarily. All the
toxins don’t leave the body any time soon. As the hair grows back, so
does the drug history for all to see.
